Malaysia 0 UAE 5, and Sathia is giving up

Sathianathan, Bathenay and FAM media officer, Zaid Jamaludin
A study of contrast

Coach B. Sathianathan sounded as if he was ready to throw in the towel shortly after his side were whitewashed 5-0 by a technically superior United Arab Emirates in the opening Group C tie of the 2011 Asian Cup qualifiers at the KL Stadium in Cheras.

"I will be meeting with my bosses at FAM and let them know my feelings and if they feel that I should resign, I will go. But not before I tell them the harsh reality of our game.

"Our M-League is just not good enough to help raise the standard and maintain our players' fitness level. From the fitness tests conducted, only three met expectations."

What is the solution to stop the rot?

"I don't know, I have been talking about the same thing for the past 10 years," said Sathianathan who came under fire after the recent AFF Suzuki Cup where Malaysia failed to advance to the semi-finals for the first time since 1998.

Read the report of the Malaysia-UAE clash here and here.

The margin did not reflect the true complexion of the match especially in the first 20 minutes, with the visitors struggling to impose their authority on the wet pitch. But Aussie ref Benjamin Williams turned partypooper when he adjudged Hardi Jaafar to have fouled nippy left flanker Ismael Salem in the 44th minute. Go here to study the incident yourself!
I don't wish to question the referee's credibility but I left the stadium feeling as if Williams and assistant referee Matt Cream, despite having been candidates for the AFC Awards in their respective categories in 2007, were from the Aussie outback with no experience in football whatsoever but I'm being biased here, I guess.

I did ask Kedah left flanker Khyril Muhymeen Zambri what actually took place and he revealed according to Hardi during half-time, it was Ismael who knocked into him.
But that's football.
UAE boss Dominique Bathenay was happy to open their campaign to qualify for Qatar 2011 with a hefty win.

"It's always good to start with a win and I was happy to see Ismail Matar ending his goal drought with two well-taken goals," said the former France midfielder. So confident he was that Bathenay said he was looking forward to a win against Uzbekistan in their next match in February.

I asked him "were you happy with the standard of refereeing?" "Since we won I don't have any complains."

Williams' dubious decisions angered the 6,000-odd Malaysian fans. To vent their frustration, they threw bottles onto the pitch before half-time. Williams who plays guitar as a hobby, had to wait until he was sure of a safe passage back to the dressing room during the interval.

My sentiments exactly, oh and that's Williams on the right

Sathia should tell the truth, nothing but the truth. The truth is a no-brainer. We are nothing but good for nothing. We have become a nation of moaners and groaners who have lost the will to fight against the odds. Dont blame Sathia. Dont blame the FAM. Dont blame the Sultan. Dont blame it on the facilities, because we have first class facilities. Blame it on third class mentality. Sathia, dont be too harsh on yourself, because even God cannot save our bunch of no-hopers who take no pride in wearing the colours of the nation. Arnaz Khairil, Malaysia's sports writer to watch, has long given up on football. He's right. Malaysia Boleh! Malaysia Ole!

Yes!

enough is enough. well zal, put aside the decisions by the ref, kita perlu akui yang team kita tak mencapai piawaian antarabangsa. cukup baik dan gah hanya untuk liga 'kampung' kita saja. cumanya as i've written in my blog, i must say that i'm upset with what i saw in khyril's performance. he was not in the game and merely passenger. selection of syamsuri is a bit questionable and its time for indra to only focus in the domestic league. technically, our boys only wanted to have the ball at their feet and were not creative enough in creating space for them to receive the ball and make attempts towards goal..wallahualam.

coretan khalayak..maybe its time that we get the signatures from the fans and hand over to them. i wonder what datuk soh chin aun, datuk m chandran and previously datuk jamal nasir whom were our country's favourite sons of football. kita nak kata those yang arif tentang bolasepak takde dalam fam, previously ada jugak wakil and that includes datuk ghani minhat. but what they have to say about all these nonsense or they were merely there to listen and be the yes men. and after getting the 'datukship' its time to relax and reap the rewards and benefits? correct me on this pls...wallahualam

Our national team should be disbanded. Instead, the funds should go for development. Just forget about fielding a team for FIFA sanctioned tournaments for now.

Dear Sathia. Sorry about the hammering but we did not expect much either. So dont feel so bad. A defeatist like you deserved nothing better. In fact I think 5 was not quite humbling. Let me explain. Macam ni la senang cerita. First and foremost YOU, the Coach should have been sacked even before kick-off. Seriously. Pls tell me which sane Coach would actually announce to the world that only an X number of his players were fit enough to be involved in international duties. Ada ka? Only in BolehLand and you, proved how insane you were. Kalau announce injuries oklah. But fitness?!?!? 2 boys? 3 boys? Hallo macha, that statement alone was enough to make you an invalid as a Coach. You should not have been involved. Tak pernah dengar perkataan demoralising? As THE best Coach in BolehLad you should've come up with a scheme to at least got a draw ke, park the bus ke or whateva. Dont go giving out disclaimer saying if we lose, it's the boys. I am as fit as a fiddle. Puke man!!! U make me want to puke!!

I honestly thought that you were a goner after the last assigment but FAM you know laa...

So Sathia. Stop whining like Wenger. But then Wenger won loads of silverware but look at you? Rumah tada cermin ka? I really think you are still high with your Piala Merdeka success la macha. Come la woi!!! Move on. Beating those teams were nothing la. Even last year you got shamed by the Myanmarese? Dang!!!

So Sathia, macha, if you are to wait for your Bosses to decide then I guess you'll never go away. No shame ka? Belah la!!!

No no. Not just you. You and the whole lots of no-hopers in FAM should vacate the place. DANG DANG DANG!!!

So kalau offer Sepp Blatter jadi S/U Agung & Carlos Alberto Pareira jadi head coach pun tak sure kita boleh maju. Tanya pemain & persatuan negeri yang menjadi watak utama M-League, apa yang depa dok buat saban minggu...?? Semua orang akan cakap 'this & that' pas tu jadi apa?? Tak kisah kalau VVVIP FAM tak datang sbb Sultan tak datang, tp Presiden sendiri pun sukar nak datang so camna. Terus terang cek dah malas nak sembang bola local ni sb tak tau mana hala tuju bolasepak kita..

since when the national team became 'Skuad Sathia'? cant help to be bemused with Ahmad Khawari's headline for his report in Berita Harian today ... http://www.bharian.com.my/Current_News/BH/Thursday/Sukan/20090122041432/Article

Skuad Sathia 0, UAE 5
Oleh Ahmad Khawari Isa dan Mohd Fadzrie Hazis

Sathia, the players, the stadium janitor, the RapidKL bus driver, the cats & dogs etc are not to be blamed for the rot that is Malaysian football ... agreed with kakibola, we simply do not have the capability to reach the 'piawaian antarabangsa'.. we used to lenyek teams like UAE once upon a time ...

gosh man, how low can we go?

the answer to the rot is to revamp the entire football culture & system in this country.. hav eto agree with Shebby Singh somewhat ...mana dia bolasepak liga daerah??

I recently married a woman from Muar, Johor and have been spending sometimes in that lovely town bordering Malacca. too bad tho', i cant find no Muar FC team there, tho' there is a dilapidated Muar Stadium somewhere there. being a jerseys colelctor, I duly 'made' a (fantasy) Muar FC jersey, put it on and walked around Muar.. 20 questions, I guessed, I received from the folks there ..'ader ker team Muar FC?', 'mana kau dapat jersey ni mamat? etc ...

sigh .....

Aku ingat hang mesti dok buat tak semenggah punya hal dulu kot? Tu sebab hang cabut awai. heheheheh

Jangan salahkan sesiapa la mangkuk hayun..kita kalah sebab kita semua mangkuk ayun. masyarakat mangkuk. tahu tengok bola je.kalau kalah je kutuk coach dan FAM. tak pernah cuba study struktur FAM tu...sape yang sebenarnya buat keputusan hingga dah 14 org coach dah kena tukan...berapa setiausaha agung yg sgt 'setia' dah bertukar. tapi puak2 tu yang masih disitu. mereka ni lah yg merangcang kehancuran bolasepak negara sejak berpuluh tahun dahulu lagi. Mereka pennghabis beras dan dana FAM je. ...malah nak cerita...sebab kau org pun mangkuk ayun..tak reti2

To the blogger... grow a pair. Stop blaming others and open your eyes. You make it sound as if Sathia was wrong to voice out, when in fact, he should have voiced out long ago about the standard of Malaysian football. We've been shyte and the whole world knows it, bar the boardroom-sitting idiots in FAM and most of the state associations.

I'm glad Sathia came out and told the truth, someone needs to say it. If it isn't gonna be those suit-wearing clowns ruining the state of our national football, then it might as well be the national coach.

Well done Sathia, at least someone has a pair...

Abang Hakim Selamat Pengantin Baru/Lama. Dengar cerita Zainal Abidin Rawop pun bakatnya main bola diasah kat Padang Muar Club dulu. Muar FC patutnya layak main Liga Premier tp sebab tak de pulus punya pasal. Berbalik pada cerita team Sathia ni, rasanya biarlah FAM & Ahlil-Ahlil Gabungannya bermuhasabah agar tak terus menerus dihimpit kekalahan. Sebetulnya kita dah tak ada pemain berkualiti. Sekolah Sukan Bukit Jalil & Bandar Penawar dikatakan sering melahirkan pemain - pemain berpotensi tapi lepas sekolah mereka dah tak de tempat dan team nak bermain sebab state coaches dakwa mereka bukan pemain didikan negeri! So bebudak ni jadi pengganggur terhormat la. At the end, main Futsal atau jadi Artis. Mana nak maju. M-League tak membantu...70% betul.

Look at the bright side, after so many years, we now have our own official national jersey. Good Job FAM. Hopefully, the game also enhanced.
