Mazlan is the SAP chairman

Datuk Wira Mazlan Ahmad, National Sports Council supremo for more than 12 years, is the new Sports Advisory Panel (SAP) chairman effective as of May 1, as announced by Sports Minister, Datuk Ismail Sabri Yaakob in the post-cab meeting hours ago.

Jasin-born Mazlan who retired in August 2005, said: "I am very grateful and honoured. I will offer my views and advice for the good of sports. After retiring almost three years ago without being involved at all either at the Ministry level or the NSC, I can see things more objectively.

"However my role is to advise, the rest is for the YB Minister to decide."

Mazlan's immediate predecessor Datuk Nik Mahmud Nik Yusof is now the Sports Commissioner, succeeding Tan Sri Elyas Omar whose tenure ended April 15.

YB Menteri, Please you need fresh ideas, sir. By bringing a man (with all due credit to him for the sucess of SUKOM 98)who is past his prime and has only one objective of bringing his people up in MSN who are all his cronies(uncofirmed sources say the DG has a degree in Agriculture) and putting forward his agenda. We need fresh ideas and a paradigm shift in the development of sport in the country. As of now if the letter (of appointment)
is out, you have set back sports in the country. Please YB correct the mistake before it is too late.

Mazlan is a blast from the past.He is yesterday's man. He was given a chance to change the sports landscape, but he chose to do nothing and see nothing. So it's a case of yesterday's man making a comeback. And sports is of course poorer for it.

anon n nstman...

i agree with both of you...

but at the meantime, can u suggest any name to fill the post?...

Epain, thanks for the support. We have had enough of yesterday's men. These jokers hear nothing, see nothing, talk nothing but just take their monthly gaji. As a result, Malaysian sports has gone to the dogs. Even the dogs are now refusing to go near it. I have a few people in mind for the job of reforming sports. Top of my list is Rizal, a loose cannon who should be allowed to put his money where his mouth is. Any suggestions, anyone? Of course many may suggest Lazarus Rokk. Please no, we dont want sports to die a tragic death.

nstman, instead of labelling others as jokers who do nothing but withdraw their salaries every month, why don't you offer ways and means to develop sports?

Pouring scorn at people or ideas is as simple as A, B, C. Any Tom, Dick and Harry can do it.

The training centres of weightlifting, diving, bowling and shooting became a reality as a result of Mazlan's paperwork.

Today we have youngsters playing bowling instead of grandmothers.

Our weightlifters have won accolades at Commonwealth level while shooting is no more the domain of trap shooters.

Our divers have qualified for the Olympics, which is the ultimate stage for any athlete.

Give the man due credit. I'm not suggesting he's the best man for the job or the best administrator ever but look around lah...

Azalina appointed Nik Mahmud who has no sports background as well as the SAP chairman, and people who know nuts about sports were given positions.

You can ask Terence Fernandez, my former colleague at the MM, who recently wrote in his Down2earth column in the Sun about kaki bangkus holding positions in advisory capacity when Azalina was the Sports Minister!

dear anon and nstman... what up?? i dont think you are in any position to talk bad to "maybe" one of the greatest sports official ever born in malaysia.
To give your two cent idea about how bad is Dato Mazlan is simple but what you do in you capacity as "maybe" sport journalist to develop sport in Malaysia. You maybe a hardcore fan for english club but no nothing about sports in malaysia.

wake up la...

Mazlan may not be perfect, but from past experience, he is a capable person who has delivered when he was in charge of nsc.

Most importantly, Mazlan can take criticism and while he may be pissed off at you today, he will forget it the next and greet you as if nothing happened (nolah, not senile).

just ask rizal. he was nearly, banned from nsc many times for his fiery articles but mazlan always refused to sanction the action.

I, too, had my run ins with the man, but at the end of the day, he will also accept what the critics have to say and will not boycott them.

Whether he is still as good today remains to be seen but, let us give him a chance.

we should look at the function of sap...

advisor? to whom? to minister? at what benefit?...

there are a lot of committee in malaysian sports...

i do beleive kbs should strengthen the function of nsc...not by setting so many committee...

there are so many committee..but at the end...all fingers still pointed at nsc....

Habislah Abang Rizal,
Sebagai Penasihat diKPM tidak boleh buat program baru tetapi curi program- program pembangunan MSN dan ISN. Dato' Mazlan sudah tidak ada idea lagi. Bersara sahajalah. Beri kepada yang ada idea baru.
Majulah Sukan Untuk Negara.

Dear anon,

During his tenure he hire foreign coaches and we have spent RM 10/ million on them. This coaches never produced good results. Did Mazlan it his job well before hiring this coaches. Dato Mazlan also did blunder for MSN and lavisley spend the tax payer money. The govt.should set up a commission on MSN then only we know the scandal of MSN.Normal air fare to Karanchi is RM 1800.00 but MSN pay more than RM 3000.00 for that particular air fare.

dear anon,

why nsc hire foriegn coaches?? because we still lacking local who are capable and have international knowledge and know how. unlike rusia or australia we are 20 year behind this. almost all country employ foriegn coaches and we are practising what other country do.

bro check your fact first. kita memang nak komen yang membina dalam blog ini supaya sukan kita boleh maju bukan nya kutukan tidak membina.

i'm sure nsc top brass is reading this blog and we should help them with honest feedback

I dunno why people nowadays like to just say as they want without getting any facts or figure..you all simply say nsc paying so much money for foreign coach la, paying extra flighr airfare la, etc etc etc..
I really dunno you guys but one thing for sure, you all have been to school (pri and sec) thus ending with certs of diploma or at least degree in any field, but still dunno how to use your brain and knowledge..so mate, please check your facts first or your certs and brain will go to drain..
I've seen Dato' Mazlan's track record as success as he has done alot in sports esp in diving, weightlifting, archery, bowling and shooting..even he did try to develop fencing (sports school) but M'sian Fencing F'tion didn't do much to the athlete's programme..only Johor State has utilise the fencers from Bdr Penawar Sports School for their SUKMA since 2000 and claim to whole nation that this their programme..(ahem, what a joke)
I'm an avid sports fan, interested in following athlete success from 1998 until now. Hopefully, in Beijing Olympics coming August, the first ever Malaysian athlete who will win the GOLD medal will walk out proudly with pride. And of course, to dedicate the medal to current NSC DG as his birthday's ever present/gift.
To bro rizal, when can we have TTS (teh tarik session) in PJ, hah?
