FEI KL Grand Prix shifted to Putrajaya

The prestigious CSI 5-star Kuala Lumpur Grand Prix, dubbed the Formula1 of showjumping, has been shifted to Taman Ekuestrian Putrajaya, the home of the annual Premier Cup series. It will be staged on March 18-21 next year.

This was announced by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, patron of the Premier Cup series, after the prize presentation of the annual event at the park in Putrajaya on Sunday.

The Putrajaya centre is managed by ARL Equestrian and has been the home of the Premier Cup series since 2000.

Strategically located in the heart of Putrajaya and opposite the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), the centre is built on estimated 70 acres spread overlooking the lush Putrajaya greenery.

The KL Grand Prix’s previous organisers were AsiaPromote Ventures headed by the husband-and-wife team of Peter Imran Abdullah and Wan Nor Zaleha Wan Ahmad Radzi, both keen and competitive riders. The event was supposed to be held sometime this month but was postponed due to the global economic crisis.

..lc, to my mind, a sport that has been left for far too long as an exclusive to the rich and the royals.. almost impossible for ordinary folks to break into..given the lack of facilities, but not for the lack of horses..common scene along kampongs that lined the beaches are village kids on 'kuda padi's' having fun with their horses..most are expert bare-back riders..given proper training, they could perhaps be good riders at national level..just a thought, lc..

Since this is a Government owned equestrian facility might as well make full use of it? To me any sport at the social level is not that expensive as the benefits derived are more than what you coughed out. Horse sport you can do it own your own ....do not need partners? Only when you want to be competitive than it will costs. Just a thought.
