Top manager

Guess who is among the top 20 managers from the civil sector over the years?

A must have book

Not so expensive

To be mentioned in the same breath as Tan Sri Abdul Jamil Rais, Tan Sri Arshad Ayub, Tan Sri Hashim Aman, Tan Sri Ishak Tadin, Raja Tan Sri Muhammad Alias, Tan Sri Zain Azraai Zainal Abidin, Tan Sri Dr Ahmad Tajuddin Ali and Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz is indeed a recognition for Datuk Wira Mazlan Ahmad, National Sports Council (NSC)'s longest-serving director-general who retired in 2005.

Under the series Siri Tokoh Malaysia (Malaysia's Eminent Figures), a documentation of several high-profile leaders in various fields, Medium Publications saw it fit to include Malaccan-born Mazlan as one of the country's top managers in the civil service. I chanced upon the book yesterday at MPH, after a fruitful meeting with Anwardi "Abang Didi" Jamil.

Funny though a certain politician did not think too highly of Mazlan and in fact went to great lengths to tarnish his reputation. INGAT, we are all answerable to God!

Sports Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek too seems disinterested in fully tapping into Mazlan's experience and way of thinking. Well perhaps Tan Sri Muhyiddin Mohd Yassin will.

Excerpts from the book: -

PINTU FAM pula berbeza Rizal. Ianya sentiasa tertutup dan kalau nak berurusan mengalahkan nak jumpa menteri.

Kena lapor diri dan selesaikan di bawah kat penyambut tetamu kat bawah tu jer....

an excellent sports leader. rugi sebab shabery yang masih blur sampai la ni, tak pandai nak gunakan kepakaran mazlan

Zaman dia MSN tidakpun pernah berhutang macam sekarang.

Dato mazlan certainly deserved to be in the list... he did a great job for msn ... his "open door" concept and prudent spending - key elements of his success...
really hope the deputy prime minister will make full use of mazlan's experience... unlike the sports ministers - current and the previous two!!!!!

Salam bro rizal,

saya setuju dengan apa yg frahman said n his the great DG among DG NSC n tak hairanlah datuk mazlan salah seorang 20 org tokoh pengurusan yang terbaik di Malaysia.

I feel honoured when I was told by a friend that you carried a comment about a book on 20 top managers in civil service of which I'm one of them.

Passion is one of the 3 pillars of Zig Ziglar's Better Than Good. I did my work at NSC with passion and the 1998 Commonwealth Games was the best achievement of my career as a civil servant. Champions of the 2001 Sea Games was a spill over of Jaya 98 Programme. Please do not forget the contributions by other parties also.

God willing soon I will serve the Minister of Education to give life back to sports in school. It is a great challenge indeed to help realize YAB Tan Sri Muhyiddin's vision. Like the 1998 Games, we will see something soon InsyaAllah.

Datuk Mazlan Ahmad, thank you for responding to my posting. Agak-agak masa tu berapa harga sewa basikal?

Datuk Mazlan, sesekali U kena bukak mulut betulkan ckit apa yg tak betuk kat OCM & NSC. Even Pak Menteri yg kuat merapu. Betui u dah pencen tapi tak salah gv a 'liitle fatherly or brotherly advice' to those people. As M'sia yg pegi votes saya juga hairan Mail Sabri yg baru nak masuk gear 3dah kena tukar & KBS & everythng kena mula balik, back 2 square 1. Camna negara dan sukan nak maju.

Saudara Rizal,

Terpaksa akur kpd suara majoriti. Kan negara kita negara demokrasi.

Kena Last Warning said...

Tengoklah cara Datuk Paduka Mumtaz buat kerja. Jangan pandai kritik orang tetapi ekor bergelumang.....

BUAT DATO MAZLAN

Kena cuci MSN macam mana FAM perlu di cuci
MSN kena berhijrah baru akan ada perubahan
Penghijrahan itu penting untuk kita maju
Taniah Dato 1998 tahu yang perlu saya banggakan

I've had the privilege of actually working with Dato' Wira (short term national assignment) and have high regards for this man, both as a professional and a person. To date, I can attest he is the only person I've interacted with, whom despite not having any academic qualification on sport studies, will put to shame 90% of the sport academics I've to put up with throughout my entire career, with his clear vision and foresight on how this nation's sports path should be charted.

rizal hashim said...

otak lazer, thanks. but one thing you are wrong ...mazlan has a Masters degree in sports management...

Unknown said...

Am aware of that, but to an academic, 'formal' would refer to from the bachelor's level stage and so forth. American sport sc/studies academia regards postgrad degrees obtained via USSA models as professional degrees.. as per obtainable without the requirement of a basic degree in similar field... Setakat ni social sciences adopt this model, but still not allowable in true professions like engineering, medicine, law etc. sb tu bidang sukan jadi huru hara.. But on Dato' Wira case, I felt that his clarity in terms sports knowledge appeared to be hardly influenced by that management degree...its definitely the passion that he had for the job, till that idiot female sport minister came along...pardon the language..

Anonymous said...

Otak Lazer. which idiot female sport minister?

Anon 3:42... Dia tentulah yours truly the one and only - the sole individual (of course with the collective assistance of her mostly very 'intellectual' team of advisors) responsible for altering the landscape of Malaysian sport into what it is today... I actually do not see certain 'things' eye to eye with RH (strictly based on blog comments), but I concur with him fully on his point that the present Malaysian sport situation is generally a failure.
