Can you identify them?

I don't know whose picture does this belong to but I know each and every single one of the players.

Their bragging rights - they were the last Malaysian squad to win the gold medal at the SEA Games.

Watch this space...

Salam bro,

It's good to look back at the good old days. Still remember the header from Dollah Salleh that clinch the match for us and Dr M (PM at that time ) declares one day public holiday.

A big question on if the good old days will be back soon or not so soon ...hehehe

It would be a good idea to reflect on the "greatness" of Malaysia's football squad of yesteryears, so that our adiks (in my case, children and grandchildren) will be be able to see the huge difference between teams of 1970-1990 and teams from 1991 to present.

It can be either through old pictures, paper cuttings, articles, etc. Maybe Rizal can allocate a certain space in his blog for those who would like to contribute. The idea is to reflect on Malaysia's past greatness, and then discuss how we can achieve that "greatness" again.

For everybody's info, Malaysia was the "king" of Asian football in the 1970s, beating an Olympic team (Japan), and hammering teams from South Korea, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. Malaysia even scored first against England B in the 1970s, which earned the late Mokhtar Dahari the "Supermokh" title.

Syed Ahmad scored the "perfect" goal against South Korea in 1975 to earn Malaysia's first Olympics berth in 1976. We lost our first match against West Germany (1-3), but made a good impression on our first Olympics outing.

We had then,to name a few, Namat Abdullah, Shaharudin Abdullah, Ali Bakar, Isa Bakar, Soh Chin Aun, Santokh Singh, R. Arumugam and Syed Ahmad. I am sure there we had many more "heroes" then, who played their hearts out for the country, and NOT for the money.

Lads...stop reversing to the golden days. Its typical attitude of us to only look back at the good times. Its time for all of us to look forward on how can we create back the new heroes of our future.
In sports/football, history is history, the future is what we have to encounter...

Dear Mr Othman Abu Bakar or PakNdak,

Yes it could be done. Taking us down memory lane may just trigger or rediscover the things that led to our success.

Just to correct you though, Syed Ahmad scored the goals in the 1971 qualifiers in South Korea. His goals earned Malaysia our first appearance in the Munich Olympics in 1972 but he was sadly omitted from the final squad.

Maybe I can come up with a series of articles I've written for the Malay Mail over the years.

Thanks

Wow... Really 1Malaysia team back then. I remember watching these guys religiously when I was 7-8. Honestly (and sadly), I can't name a single one of our current squad.
