Supremo or clerical role for Van Huizen?

Steven van Huizen is the supremo when it comes to technical matters of all national hockey teams. Read here. Van Huizen's role is akin to that of the technical director of national football team, I guess. Malaysian Hockey Federation (MHF) president Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah is perhaps imposing something that cannot be done at FAM.

Updated:

An insider contacted loose cannon, saying that van Huizen is in fact the national teams' coordinator and coaching (NTCC) whose key task is to liaise with the relevant stakeholders, namely the players, selectors, MHF, NSC, OCM and the Asian and world bodies. He also acts as secretary to the national team management committee.

Loose cannon is not too clear on van Huizen's role, whether or not his technical expertise will be required now that Beng Hai and Nor Saiful Zaini Nasiruddin are back handling the senior team.

When van Huizen was invited for Kafe Sukan after the silver medal feat in the Guangzhou Asian Games not too long ago, he went out of his way to give credit to Beng Hai.

What MHF is doing is good. It's about putting in place a system or process, similar to what BAM is doing with Datuk James Selvaraj, who is cracking his head to persuade Datuk Misbun Sidek to return to the fold.

What I don't understand is why ensuring national team equipment is accounted for and updating players' profiles, contact details, visa and updating statistics, international caps and goals come under van Huizen's jurisdiction? This means he will be bogged down by clerical duties...and his technical expertise will not be fully utilised!

Looking at his track record, van Huizen is best be appointed as the technical adviser, nothing more, nothing less.

It doesn't matter who is the technical director, coach or team manager. More important is for our hockey team to produce good results and improved the world ranking.

Question 1: Why do we need Stephen in the system?
Ans : Technical expertise in hockey as well as to impart experience in coaching.
Question 2: Can we employ cheap labour for administrative function; i.e to run-around? That's somewhat not getting to the head of the high caliber Sec/GM.
Question 3: What is the role of Sec/GM, Asst Sec and the clerks in MHF does? To warm/protect their seats and to organise covert operations like the Teh-Tarek session to leak information to the stakeholders.

To summarise the above, let the coaches involved directly to the development of hockey and officials to complement the supporting role by ensuring operational functions are carried effectively. The job is easy, don't complicate.
