UPDATED 11.57am.
Sportwriters Association of Malaysia (SAM) president Ahmad Khawari Isa is in the opinion that we should give the Sports Minister the benefit of the doubt. Read his rebuttal on loose cannon's posting here.
ORIGINAL POSTING
Granted the English Premier League is one of the most exciting competitions in the footballing world but do we have to make our former colonial masters a destination to hone the skills of our Tigers?
Loose cannon finds it disturbing that the Government thinks England can provide answers to our woes. The last time loose cannon checked, England's only victory on a global scale was the World Cup in 1966, the year best remembered for the birth of Eric Cantona.
What we can learn from the English is how to market our products - the league. To discover how best to ensure a never-ending supply of QUALITY footballers, go to France and Holland lah!
Turut hadir Timbalan Presiden FAM, Datuk Redzuan Sheikh Ahmad, Ketua Pengarah Majlis Sukan Negara (MSN), Datuk Zolkples Embong dan Setiuasaha Agung FAM, Datuk Azzuddin Ahmad. KENAPA PAKAR-PAKAR INI TIDAK MENASIHAT PAK MENTERI?
Ditanya jika ada pasukan negeri enggan melepaskan pemain mereka kepada skuad kebangsaan, Shabery menegaskan, mereka tiada pilihan lain, selain mengutamakan kepentingan negara. BETUL TAPI PEMAIN PERLUKAN PERLAWANAN KOMPETITIF, BUKAN PERSAHABATAN!
BETUL!
''Kita tidak mahu sekadar jurulatih kita hanya tahu sekadar melatih, namun turut dibimbing dengan ilmu membaca serta menganalisis permainan bola sepak,'' katanya. BETUL! DAH BERIBU KALI AKU TULIS DULU! SIAP AKU SUGGEST HANTAR JURULATIH KE PIALA DUNIA, BUKAN AHLI MAJLIS FAM!

FAM blur, Menteri lagi blur...blur blur la semua
Full time training for football team?
Have they seen one proven failure of full time national training? - Our National Hockey Team?
Come on... please Datuk Ahmad Shabery. Training stints alone are insufficient. Please sir.
Export our better players abroad.
Let them gain competitive experience in the lower reaches of other Asian, European or North African leagues.
Let us have a look at the English and Spanish system.
English: the younger players who are not in the 1st team are left to rot in the stiffs (reserves). Playing week in week out at an ok level in the Reserve league. Most managers use the reserve league matches as a means to get their post injury 1st team players up to par fitness and match sharpness wise.
The one's who want competitive matches have to go on loan (usually at a lower division club. see Beckham: Preston North End; Ferdinand:Bournmouth;)
Spanish: the 1st division teams have a shadow squad who actually compete in the Segunda and lower. They are not entitled to promotion to the same league as their parent (1st team).
However, they do play against hardened pros of the Segunda and lower. In real and competitive matches, with points and promotion (for the other teams) at stake.
Pep, Puyol, Messi, Pedro, Xavi, Iniesta, Oleguer (Barcelona) have all played in the Segunda with Barca B.
Pavon, Juanfran, De la Red (Castilla/ Real Madrid B) have as well...
Who's system is more successful? Subjective you say? Who won the European Championships? Spain. Who has a list of players everyone would die for? Spain.
And to me those are the best two systems... takde pun hantar pergi training stint!
If you really want to send them abroad sir, please please send them for trials. EPL jangan harap, bukan saja tak cukup bagus, kalau cukup bagus pun work permit tak akan dapat.
the lower echelons of the European and Asian leagues, sir... that's where we stand.
Please.
If you want to go abroad here you go.

2.pihak e-fans dan PENCINTA BOLAEPAK TEMPATAN mesti bergerak ke hadapan membantah cadangan ini secara aman...adakan pertemuan 4 mata ngan menteri tu...wat sidang akhbar ka,debat ka.....
Even Supermokh in his heydays was only good enough for the lower Euro leagues, whatmore the current M'sian players.
Securing a trial? to be in 4th/5th squad?
Pak Menteri, dari pikir masalah securing trials for the boys, lagi baik pikir revamping FAM.
Grassroot development is the word. Selagi mende ni xde, x yah la nak pasang angan Mat Jenin nak compete internationally.
Knee jerk reaction at its best.Riding the glamour wave while the tide is still high.
That is all.

Why England? Think! just invite some top Asian teams like Iraq, Korea ,Japan for our Merdeka Tournament, then see our standard. Plan first. We fail in our plan because we fail to plan. The team which won the SEA Games is good but not good enough to shout about. If they had played against the Under 23 team of Selangor in the 80's they would had beaten up badly.
Ex Teacher
apalah cadangan menteri.. x fikir nasib negeri2 yg mempunyai pemain dlm skuad tersebut.. mereka ini tlh daftar oleh skuad negeri msg2 dgn FAM. pemain nie kalau ia terjadi kesian negeri2 ini kehilangan pemain tanpa diganti. liga mlysia dah nak start sabtu nie. SLGR PLG merasai kehilangan pemain. begitu dgn perlis yg sudah la kehilangan pemain utama mereka thn lps mereka sgt bergantung dgn pemain seperti farizal marlias, amar rohidan untuk memberikan semangat kpd pemain skuad perlis.
kalau skuad ini dikekalkan mcm mana dgn pemain muda yg tiba2 naik bila liga M bermula.
kalau pemain yg tiba2 naik pretasi ini disumbat jgk dlm SKUAD mlys sekali lagi pasukan negeri hilang pemain... dah la liga M dah kurang seri bertambah2 hilang serinya.
dah nama idea, kenalah dirasionalkan pihak tertentu.
Kalau cadangan pak menteri tu, Selangor pun banyak hilang player gak!
Quote from Dato Redzuan "Based on our analysis, the fitness level of national players drops when they return to their state or club teams. Such fitness levels might be enough to win domestic titles but not enough to win at international levels," he said after handing out incentives to the players.
IS the FAM Vice-President is now finally acknowledging that B.Sathianathan now famous quote "the M-League is not FOOTBALL" was the the truth and nothing but the truth of Malaysian football and the former National Coach was right all this while for saying it.
Why was he then sacked?. Will Tuanku President now sack Dato Redzuan for repeating after Sathia?.
Sathia knew that his boys will not be fit enough when they report for training to play in the Asia Cup qualifying match against UAE and duly requested for a 10 day preparation. But the powers in FAM said NO! 5 days is enough - result 0-5 and he gets the sack.
Was there a conspiracy among those in power in FAM to get rid of Sathia?.
Bro Rizal, this is what happens when politicians and seat warmers start talking about things that they have no clue about.
Aduyai pak menteri..
seems like this idea is also a spur-of-the-moment thing, just like the idea to buy out U-23 players from their current team. should the plan goes on, it may bring some good to the national team, but what will happen to our local league? in a way, these state teams are the one who actually 'discovered' these talents in the first place. doesn't it seem like the FAM/the Ministry taking them for granted this time?
and i wholeheartedly agree with providing the coaches with a lot more exposure *and* concentrating on development of the sport on grassroot level. even without a proper league, i can guarantee that inter-school matches alone are abundant with exciting talents and loyal group of supporters (their schoolmates, of course). sadly, they lack attention from those that are actually responsible of the development of football at the national level.
Pak Menteri should read Windsor Paul's comment in NST today.
Sending average players for attachment is a waste of time.
Grassroot development is again the word.
China, a big country with zero achievement in football is taking the long way to rectify it's earlier mistake and now has been chosen as the best by FIFA for grassroot development.
This is proven success story but those people failed to see. WTF!!!
Francis Dass from his graveyard
First of all..why Everton ? How many big stars come out from their academy ? DO they really care about developing our players..or it is all about money ?
1) During my coaching stint in Shanghai, we have been approached by Everton. We made the plans, the setup and 2 blokes from Everton came over for a visit. No football clinics was organized, they didnt present to us any plans but instead, they bring alot Rooney's poster and Everton stickers. Its more like trying to get more fans instead of developing grassroot football.
- Another example..few months back, before I started Mont Kiara FC, West Ham came over and we have a brief meeting..They talk about they are not like the other clubs, trying to make money, get fans..Hmm Sound interesting..They also said they will offer 10 spots for our players to go for trials...even more interesting..Then I asked..who will bear the cost for the players to go for trials.? West Ham say us..and it will cost RM 7000++..thats RM 70,000 that I will have to pay them..yearly as well..which means IT IS THE SAME as the other clubs..they don't care..its all about money
2) Why I think players attachment wont work..it is because the coach down there won't give a damn about our players. Its different sending a player for a fee compare to a player wanted by the club. When I was in Shanghai, i was asked to take 3 Chinese players from another club for some sessions..Yes, they join my session, but I was not focusing on them as I have my own players to focus on...The same scenario will happen if our players went their unwanted by the club. And also training alone is not enough...Its all about match experience..thats where you learn most.
3) Why Everton ...Why EPL..? Why not look into countries that had gone past us..Japan..Korea..? How many world class players have Everton produce ? Our players don;t even stand a chance to play in the 3 tier of the English League due to permits and stuff..? Why not try to talk to Bayern..? Our very own Coach Lim Teong Kim is there..?
4) What age group are we sending the players..? Those U23..its a waste of time..bad habits are already there to stay..They will not improve..
The only way we can improve is to have a proper Grassroot program..without grassroot we will go no where..Our young players..14 years old..16 years old..they need to go abroad to play and train with the best..staying with our current set up, they are going no where..And it is not necessary with big name football club in England..it could be in Australia..Japan..USA..They have colleges that provides quality education..and quality coaching..and then it brought us back to item No 2..Players going there must be the one that is wanted by the club or college...and another issue will crop up..Will parents let them go ??
